Barbara A. Krasa has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Her clinical experience in ICU/CCU, Emergency Room, Medical/Surgical, Rehabilitation, Home Health and Psychiatric Nursing forms a solid foundation for her medical case management. Ms. Krasa has over 10 years experience in Utilization Review, Medical Case Management and Life Care Planning. Over her many years of experienced she was established a positive working relationship with numerous physicians practicing in Northwestern Pennsylvania, Northeastern Ohio and Northwestern New York State. She is certified in Medical Case Management and Life Care Planning. Ms. Krasa is a member of the American Association of Life Care Planners, Lake Erie Claims Association and the National Ski Patrol.
The commission for Case Management Certification CCMC defines case management as follows: “Case management is a collaborative process that assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors and evaluates the options and services required to meet an individual’s health needs, using communication and available resources to promote quality, cost –effective outcomes.”
My role as a medical case manager assists injured employees in using the best available medical resources to recover from work related injuries. Working with the physician, I assist in obtaining prescribed and approved treatments, medications, equipment that is reasonable and necessary. In speaking with the physician we are able to determine what is related to the original injury and what is a pre-existing condition. Constant communication assists in bridging the gap between injured individual, family, physician, employer and claims representative. Negotiations with equipment providers assist in providing a cost effective rate. If needed arrangements are made for transportation to appointments. Assess and discuss with an injured employee their understanding of their injury and their responsibility in obtaining optimum health. My goal is always to create a win/win situation, the employee benefits from gaining timely assess to medical services, which promote recovery and return to pre-accident lifestyle.
